OMF: Battlegrounds Demo Instructions

New testers, please read all of these instructions carefully before playing!
Bug Reporting Procedure
It is important that all OMF: Battlegrounds Demo players follow this procedure when reporting bugs.
Don't be afraid to remind another tester if they have forgotten something.
Operating System
CPU type and speed, amount of system RAM
3D Accelerator brand & model, amount of video RAM
Type of internet connection
Gamepad/joystick brand & model (if applicable)
You may wish to create a text file on your desktop containing your specs, so you can copy-paste them into each post. Or, you may use the bulletin board's "signature" feature to automatically add them to every post you write.
- Before reporting any bug, make sure you are running the latest build and your machine is properly configured.
- Check the Bug Reports forum to see if the bug has been discovered already.
- If the bug is new, create a new thread. As the subject, enter the current build number, followed by a short, useful description of the bug. (For example: "[1700] Script error when performing a destruction on Force"). In the body of your post, describe the following: the circumstances under which the bug occured (type of match, number of players, arena, which server, etc), the actions you took that seemed to trigger the bug, and the nature of the bug itself. (For example: "Playing on Bobby's server, Last Man Standing, with three other players in the Iceberg. When Pyros threw his super-fireball at the water, it bounced instead of sinking or exploding"). Complete the post with your system specifications in the format shown below.
- If someone else has already started a thread about the bug, post in that thread. Describe the bug as you would above, mentioning any similarities and differences between your experience and others. Complete the post with your system specifications.
- After reporting the bug, try to reproduce it. Report any new information you discover. (For example, conditions under which the bug always or never occurs, or more detail on any aspect of the bug).

Please post your messages in the appropriate forum as follows:
- OMF: Battlegrounds Demo Bug Reports
- This forum is for bug reports only. Use the format described above, and avoid cluttering the forum with duplicate reports.
- OMF: Battlegrounds Demo Challenges
- This forum is for challenging other players or clans to grudge matches. A modest amount of trash-talk is allowed, but keep it clean (follow the main forum rules). You can also discuss challenge results here.
- OMF: Battlegrounds Demo Feedback/Discussion
- Here you can discuss the OMF: Battlegrounds Demo in general - give comments and suggestions, ask questions, and talk to other testers. This includes talking about general game problems that would not be considered bugs, for example: "I find it difficult to activate Jaguar's berserk rage". Please keep bug reports and grudge-match challenges out of this forum.
Tutorial
This tutorial is intended to familiarise new beta-testers with the game.
To begin, make sure you have properly downloaded and installed the game. (Follow the link from the beta-test home page to install the latest build). If you encounter any problems installing the game, post in the Forums.
Now that the game is installed, let's start a practice session to get familiarised with the controls. Start the game using the shortcut in your Start Menu. When the game has loaded, select "Host Game", then select "Demolition". The next screen allows you to set the score limit and game speed - for now you should select 5000 and Turbo Speed. The next three screens are for selecting your arena, pilot, and robot. Choose whatever interests you.
The game will now load the arena and begin the game. When the message "FIGHT" appears on the screen, you're in control! Practice moving around the arena by walking (arrow keys), running (tap forward twice and hold), and jumping ('f'). Note that some arenas contain hazards which will damage you if you run into them, as well as power-ups or items that you can pick up, throw, and interact with. Play with these now if you like.
When you're ready to hit something, press 'escape' to display the in-game menu. From there, select "Add AI Bot" to add a punching-bag opponent to the arena. Select a robot and pilot, and the game will insert your opponent. You can now attack using the punch and kick buttons ('a', 's', 'z', 'x'). If you move forward while attacking, you will perform a quick attack. If you stand or move backward, you will perform a slower heavy attack.
Try using some of your special abilities. The sequences to activate them are different for each robot - refer to this list of controls for more details. Some special abilities, called "supers", require that your blue energy-bar is charged up. To charge up your energy bar, attack your opponent or collect blue energy power-ups from around the arena. When you've played with your special abilities, you can try a few "combos". (A combo is a sequence of attacks that flows together, and deals more damage than a single blow). To create a combo, try linking several moves that flow together. Combos often begin with a quick attack, and end with a heavy attack that knocks the opponent to the ground or into the air. The game will tell you when you've executed a combo - see how many hits you can get!
When you're accustomed to the controls and gameplay, it's time to join a multiplayer game against other testers. From the game's main menu, select "Multiplayer", and then "Join". You will be shown a list of servers, with some information for each one. Choose one that you like and connect to it. You may have to wait for the current round to end before you are inserted - this gives you an opportunity to study your opponents. To chat with the other players, hit 'ctrl-t' and type your message. (You can chat between rounds as well as during the game).
Enjoy yourself, and remember to report any bugs or problems you find.
If you have any questions, send e-mail to limitedtest@omf.com.
